Dr. Eric Lawrence has trained under several pioneers in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ). He is one of the few orthodontists who has received residency training in the treatment of TMJ disorders and has provided successful relief to thousands of patients in over 30 years of clinical practice. Dr. Lawrence is the former director of the TMJ Clinic at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in TMJ treatment and orthodontics. Dr. Lawrence has authored several chapters in textbooks on TMJ treatment, as well as a patient information handbook on TMJ disorders. He has been recognized as an inventor in TMJ treatment by the United States Patent Office that issued him a patent in 2004 on his unique splint design, which stops patients from clenching their teeth at night.

TMJ dysfunction is a complex problem which affects more than 35% of the population, Symptoms can range from a simple non-painful click upon jaw opening to extreme debilitation with degeneration of the jawbone. Patients often complain of frequent or constant headaches, jaw and facial pain, ear, neck and tooth pain and/or numbness in the fingers. Dr. Lawrence utilizes conservative, non-invasive techniques to mechanically treat and correct TMJ dysfunction. His techniques are highly successful in quick relief of the headaches and pain associated with jaw joint dysfunction. His treatment planning provides for long-term stabilization of the correction fix- a lifetime of normal function.
